Carbon Certification

carboNZeroCertTM certified

carboNZero certified conference

The 7th Australia-New Zealand Climate Change and Business Conference is again making the 2011 conference carboNZero certified. This means that we will measure, manage and offset the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the conference and exhibition organisation and implementation. After the event, an independent audit will be performed to ensure the conference has met the carboNZero programme requirements.

We will be working with Green Event (www.greenevent.co.nz) which will help us to manage and measure the waste generated by the event and measure the electricity and gas used.

The carboNZero programme is the first GHG certification scheme in the world to be internationally accredited to ISO 14065 through the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and NZ. The programme is recognised in over fifty countries, and can be applied as a best practice standard across the events industry, as a means of ensuring consistency of emissions measurement, credibility of reduction and offsetting activity and independent verification and certification of carbon neutral claims.

Meridian Energy is providing carbon credits to offset greenhouse gas emissions produced by the conference.

Meridian, New Zealand’s largest renewable energy generator, is providing carbon credits to offset greenhouse gas emissions produced by the conference. The credits are produced by Meridian’s Te Apiti wind farm, which harnesses the consistently high wind speeds near the Manawatu Gorge in the North Island. The wind farm generates over 325GWh annually (enough to power approximately 45,000 average sized New Zealand homes), displacing fossil fuel generation.

The Crown has acknowledged Meridian’s right to sell Verified Emission Reductions generated by the wind farm, and these have been validated against the internationally recognised Gold Standard. This standard takes into account the high quality social, cultural, environmental and economic outcomes achieved by the asset.
